Saquon Barkley Nominated to be Mr. PA Football

Saquon Barkley, a standout running back for the Whitehall football team, is currently in the running for the title of Mr. PA Football 2014. The statewide contest, which pits well known names on the football field against each other, has fans voting for their favorite athlete in order to determine who will hold the distinction of being Mr. PA Football for the next year.

Ranked by 247sports.com at an impressive 14th in the nation for running backs, and 117th in the nation for football players overall, Barkley has long commanded a great deal of attention for his feats on the field. He was named to the 2014 Pennsylvania Writers’ AAAA All-State team. A senior, he is committed to playing for Penn State in the fall.

According to Whitehall High School Athletic Director Robert Hartman,  “Saquon has become a fan favorite because he plays hard all the time. Whether its running the football or playing basketball, his tenacity on the playing fields is a quality that endears himself to our community.”

Barkley has been nominated and selected to be amongst the top five high school football athletes statewide through a unique voting process. The fans, media, and coaches each represent one-third of the vote.

Fans can cast their vote at Mr. PA Football webpage. The final voting deadline for the winner of Mr. PA Football is February 15.

All of the remaining nominees — who are listed below — have been invited to attend the banquet where the Mr. PA Football winner will be announced. Penn State head coach and keynote speaker James Franklin will present the awards. Manheim Central coach Mike Williams will also be honored with the Legendary Coach Award during the banquet.
