Sam McCloskey Nominated to Be Mr. PA Football

Sam McCloskey, a standout running back and defensive back for the Bishop Guilfoyle football team, is currently in the running for the title of Mr. PA Football 2014. The statewide contest, which pits well known names on the football field against each other, has fans voting for their favorite athlete in order to determine who will hold the distinction of being Mr. PA Football for the next year.

Scoring 41 touchdowns and having over 2,000 rushing yards during his senior year alone, McCloskey led the Bishop Guilfoyle team to the state championship this season, where they won the PIAA state title. Named to the 2014 Pennsylvania Writers’ Class A All-State team, McCloskey has already announced his intention to play for Lehigh next fall.

“Sam is an unbelievable athlete that started in 50 consecutive games at Bishop Guilfoyle and this year lead us to our 1st ever state championship,” said Bishop Guilfoyle Head Coach Justin Wheeler. “He is a perfect combination — one of the hardest working player I’ve ever coached and one of the most talented. This combination is rare in sports and when it happens, it is very special.”

McCloskey has been nominated and selected to be amongst the top six high school football athletes statewide through a unique voting process. The fans, media, and coaches each represent one-third of the vote.

Fans can cast their vote at Mr. PA Football webpage. The final voting deadline for the winner of Mr. PA Football is February 15.

All of the remaining nominees — who are listed below — have been invited to attend the banquet where the Mr. PA Football winner will be announced.
