Lamont Wade Mr. PA Football Finalist

Lamont Wade, a standout running back and cornerback for the Clairton football team, is currently in the running for the title of Mr. PA Football 2015. The statewide contest, which pits well known names on the football field against each other, has fans voting for their favorite athlete in order to determine who will hold the distinction of being Mr. PA Football for the next year.

One of only two juniors to nab a top five ranking in this state-wide contest, Wade has garnered a great deal of attention for both his skill and his class on the football field. He was named to the 2015 Pennsylvania Football Writers’ Class A All-State team and has already received twenty offers from big-time programs such as West Virginia University, University of Pittsburgh, Penn State, Ohio State, and Tennessee. Lamont is currently rated a five-star recruit by Rivals.com and ranked the number one cornerback in the nation and the number six player overall in the 2017 class.

According to Clairton Athletic Director Mike Linnert, “Lamont’s work ethic is second to none. He is a special player, I know he is going to have a great career.”

Head Coach Wayne Wade agrees, stating, “He has a great work ethic. It is rare to see that in a junior, but he knows exactly where he wants to go with football and recognizes how football can be an avenue for him to further his education. That really keeps him on the straight and narrow.”

Regarding the community’s support that has enabled Wade to continue so far into this contest, Linnert said, “The community support is incredible. They are there through the good and the bad, the win and the loses. Their support means absolutely everything to our football program.”

Wade has been nominated and selected to be among the top five high school football athletes statewide through a unique voting process. The fans, media, and coaches each represent one-third of the vote.

Fans can cast their vote at Mr. PA Football webpage. The final voting deadline for the winner of Mr. PA Football is February 8.

All of the remaining nominees — who are listed below — have been invited to attend the banquet where the Mr. PA Football winner will be announced.
